Halem earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from George Washington University. He was an assistant to Harvey Littleton at the first college glass blowing program in Madison, WI. He started the glass program at Kent State in 1969 and inspired countless students until he retired in 1998. He penned “Glass Notes: A Reference for the Glass Artist” and is still an authority on all things glass. He is a founding member of the Glass Art Society (GAS), and its first president. Henry and his wife, playwright Sandra Perlman, are dear friends of the Gallery.
